| Rider Biography: Ray’s background in competitive cycling began after a move to Tucson, AZ in the mid-1980’s where he was exposed to some very competitive and fairly well organized training over the 25 years he lived there. His amateur racing career included a tough balance between finishing college and a long fought personal battle to qualify for the Ironman World Championships. Having been fortunate enough to land in a place with virtually unlimited training potential and almost equally unlimited training partners helped, and by the time he left the area, had completed 6 ironman races (twice in Hawaii) and raced in enough USCF (now USA Cycling) events to mellow the flames of his athletic career. He developed an interest in sailing, then moved to Charleston with his wife with the hope to one day become full-time cruisers on a small sailboat and travel wherever their hearts desire.
